For Sale I have this beautiful painting and it certainly tells a story, Do not be put off since I classified this as a reproduction but it's at least a 250 year old reproduction of a German Merchant In London originally created by Hans Holbein A famously important painting by Hans Holbein done in 1532. The portrait was commissioned by Georg Giesze who himself was a noted Merchant doing business in Londontown. Provenance is fairly strong being owned by Alexander Galleries of New York and the owner Mr Alec Acevado a very important chap in the Art World.

Georg Giese (Gisze according to the title of the Holbein painting) 2 April 1497 in Danzig. Died on 3 February 1562 in Danzig, was a Hanse. As a member of the Hanseatic League. Giese also worked in London. Where he was portrayed by Hans Holbein the Younger.

After returning to Danzig in 1535 he married Christine Kr├╝ger, daughter of a prestigious Danzig citizen. Family, which included Albrecht Giese. Had come originally from Cologne. He also appears on the 100000 mark note (1923). So at least you folks know that this is a very famous painting although a copy it was done sometime in the 1700s.

The canvas measures 34.5" by 39.5" and is the second best thing to owning the original Holbein the Younger. Be sure to add me to your. 10 days if on condition only. Along with a signed written statement from a recognized and or qualified authority.
