Dutch/Flemish Old Masters Artist Jan Baptiste Lambrechts painted this Incredible Outdoor Tavern scene. It is an Original Oil on a Wood Panel. This merry tavern scene depicts a small group gathered together, at a table just outside the tavern. The sun has just gone down under the horizon (center right) and darkness has definitely set in as the chatting and drinking continues. An Excellent example of Genre painting depicting scenes from ordinary life, and is associated particularly with 17th-century Dutch and Flemish artists. As per the brass plaque, this piece was in the collection of George Salting (1835 - 1909), Australian born, Well Known London art collector who made donations to some of London's finest museums. Although this piece is not signed (as is with most of his works), it is likely that a collector of fine antiquities, as Salting was, knew this was Lambrechts' work. Another tell-tale sign is Lambrechts' depiction of the legs of seated individuals - they almost always have a bit of a bow to them - it is even displayed with the women and their abundant dresses. Lambrechts' name and birth year appear on reverse of panel for identification. 3 3/4" Wide, 2 1/2" Deep. It is not original to the piece. The corners have various repairs over the years, but still quite distinguished. We believe the piece was re-framed while in possession Salting or just after his death so the frame is over 100 years old! Wood panel measures 10 3/4 X 13 3/4 and is in Good Antique condition.
Outside measure of the frame is X and is in to Fair condition. Please carefully examine all images for condition. Apologies for glare or reflections in images due to fresh looking and reflective finish/varnish on painting. Jan Baptiste Lambrechts 1680 - 1731?Was an 18th-century Flemish painter.
