Fine Original Antique 19thC Pre-Raphaelite Oil Painting of Young Country Girl

This is a fine mid-19. Century Pre-Raphaelite oil painting depicting. Be the eminent British artist.

The painting is signed by the artist with his monogram and hangs in its original Victorian giltwood swept frame. The painting comes directly from the private collection of the eminent picture conservator Simon Gillespie (as seen on BBC Televisions Fake or Fortune and Britains Lost Masterpieces).

As with all of the original antique oil paintings we sell it is offered in very good condition having just been cleaned and re-varnished. Frederick Smallfield was a painter of genre or subject pictures in oil and watercolour. He was a student at the Royal Academy Schools in the late 1840s with the members of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and by the late 1850s his works displays a distinct Pre-Raphaelite influence. John Ruskin praised Smallfield's watercolours in his Academy Notes of 1858 and the artist continued to exhibit at the Royal Academy until the late 1870s. He was elected Associate of the Old Watercolour Society in 1860. Works by Frederick Smallfield are held in the collections of the Manchester City Galleries and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. (framed) 59cm x 52cm (23¼ x 20½). (canvas only) 43cm x 36cm (17 x 14). Private collection of the eminent picture conservator Simon Gillespie (as seen on BBC Televisions Fake or Fortune and Britains Lost Masterpieces). All of the new frames we commission are made to order for us by one of the UKs finest period frame makers. We do not sell dirty, damaged or unframed works of art. Where necessary the paintings we sell are cleaned and restored by Fine Art Restoration est.

1974 or Simon Gillespie Studio (as seen on BBC Television's'Fake or Fortune' and'Britain's Lost Masterpieces'). Academy Fine Paintings is an international fine art dealership based in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, England. We specialise in 19th century British and early 20th century Post-Impressionist oil paintings by some of the most important artists of the period. My name is Gavin Claxton and in addition to being an art dealer I now also work as an antiques and fine art expert on BBC television.

Clients should always bear in mind that the vast majority of paintings we deal in are antiques - works over 100 years old and frequently much older and will therefore invariably retain some evidence of aging, historical damage and repair. During its lifetime a 150-year old oil painting may well have been exposed to extremes of heat or cold, intrusion of water, bumps, cuts and natural age-related deterioration, all of which require restoration. When a listing's heading reads'by' and is followed by the artist's full name (or the artist's initials, if his full name is unrecorded), the work is in our opinion by the artist. When the term'signed by' is used, in our opinion the work has been signed by the artist. When the expression "attributed to" is used, the work is in our opinion possibly a work by the artist, in whole or in part.

When the expression'circle of' is used, the work is in our opinion a work of the period of the artist and showing his influence. When the expression'follower of' is used, the work is in our opinion a work executed in the artist's style but not necessarily by a pupil. When the expression'manner of' is used, the work is in our opinion a work executed in the artist's style but of a later date. When the term "after" is used, the work is in our opinion a copy or imitation (of any date) of a work by the artist.

When the term'bears signature' is used in our opinion the signature is by a hand other than that of the artist. Great care and much time is taken over the safe transportation of the paintings we sell.

No second-hand bubble-wrap and reused cardboards boxes here! Before leaving us, each painting takes us approximately 2 to 3 hours to properly i. Safely and securely package for transport; whether for a journey or 30 miles or 3000. Every painting is first wrapped in acid free paper and then the entire frame is enveloped in deep, dense foam U cushioning. This is then covered in numerous layers of AirCap bubble wrap, which is the best and safest product of its type on the market. The entire package is then bound in black shrink wrap (as used by airline companies) and a final later of waterproof cloth tape is applied to all corners, ends and edges. UK clients are also most welcome to collect from us in South Buckinghamshire. We are very aware that not all of clients are in a position to pay the entire sale price upfront. Paintings will be dispatched to clients only once the total balance has been paid in full. Its ironic that 99.9% of the worlds fine art is owned by the wealthiest 0.01% of the population when so many of the artists who created it lived and died in relative poverty. The fact is that the art world, especially in times of global recession, thrives on inequality. But whilst the possibility of purchasing works by Leighton, Holman Hunt, Constable, and Turner is always going to be the preserve of the super-rich it has never been a better time to invest in works by their contemporaries.
