Biography: Charles-Louis Verwee (Brussels, 3 July 1832 - Saint-Josse-ten-Node, 9 July 1882) was a Flemish painter and specialised in genre scenes and portraits. Verwee was a son of painter Louis-Pierre Verwee and had a brother, Alfred Verwee, who also became a well-known painter. Verwee learned to paint with his father, who was a well-known landscape and animal painter from the romantic school. He opted for the disciplines of portrait and genre scenes. They often perform sophisticated characters in interiors, conservatories, arbories and gardens. His work is very similar to that of Alfred Stevens, Gustave De Jonghe and Florent Willems. He also portrayed characters from the lower social classes as in "The Knife Sharpener".
King Leopold II bought from him the painting "Diplomatie", which still rests in the Royal Collections. If you are collecting in person and wish to pay cash that is fine too.
