Painting - 91.5cm x 152.5cm. Frame - 107cm x 167cm. A stunning large example of the work of important.English landscape painter George Shalders depicting cattle and drovers in a mountainous landscape. The canvas not lined and with a single tiny patched repair with professional corresponding restoration. There are a couple of tiny areas of paint loss visible on close inspection. The stretcher lines are showing very slightly. Clean, most attractive, well framed and ready to hang. George Shalders was a landscape painter and watercolourist, who lived in Portsmouth and London. Shalders subjects were mostly summery views in Wales, Ireland and Surrey and occasionally on the Continent. His work is traditional and attractive, and shows affinities with two other artists from the South West, William Shayer and F R Lee. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1848 and 1862, at Suffolk Street, British Institution and the New Watercolour Society. Works by Shalders are in the Walker Art Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
