FLACCUS ANTIQUE TENNESSEE WALKING HORSE OIL PAINTING EARLY 1900'S LARGE. Offered for sale is this rare and charming Folk Art antique early to mid 1900's oil painting of horse with red and white ribbons braided into his mane by E. The painting is signed E.

Down in the lower righthand corner (nothing on back). They were done when he was younger, and I was told by a horse expert the red and white ribbons indicate he was a Tennessee Walking Horse (see writeup below with information provided). Flaccus was a political figure in the West Virginia legislature. He was related to George A.

Flaccus of the Flaccus empire who was noted for the glass and packing manufacturing in the 1800's/early 1900's. You will see a few photos of the Flaccus estate in the photos from the past in black and white and also one of today in color.

On this estate was a horse farm. There are a few references to this on the net associated with E.

Flaccus so you can see he had a genuine love for horses from an early age. They are painted in a quaint rustic way with the barn/farm in the background.

The estate was located on Chapel Hill Road off Dement Road in Wheeling, West Virginia which is just past the renowned Oglebay Park. This painting is very large and on heavy board with an old frame. It depicts a large majestic black horse with red and white show ribbons in his mane.

The sky is a soft cerulean blue, and there is a red barn in the background. Size measures 35 1/2 x 28 inches in wood frame; artwork alone on board measures 31 x 24 inches. Painting and frame show well but have some natural aging, mainly a few scuffs (frame may need corners reglued, too See photos which were taken outside in natural light). Painting is all original and has not been cleaned so it is somewhat darkened with age.

If you are interested in the other horse painting by E. Only continental US buyers on this one due to size.
