This listing is for the exceptional, rare collection of antique artists boxes with watercolor and oil paints pictured above. This incredible collection is composed of 14 boxes of paints, containing 75 vials of powder pigments and 160 rectangular watercolor paint blocks. The paints and pigments are made by a range of manufacturers based in the United States, England and continental Europe. They range in date from the mid/late 19th century to the early 20th century. Some of the manufacturers include Bourgeois Aine in Paris and Cobdens in Philadelphia. The paints feature some fantastic designs, including rabbits, lions, butterflies, crowns, dogs, birds, mythical creatures, and logos.
Six of the boxes have lids decorated with a stencil design or lithograph. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire an entire archive of early artist boxes and paints for research or enjoyment at an unbeatable value. Size: The main chest measures 12 inches long by 8.5 inches wide by 5.5 inches tall. The slide top boxes range in size from 14 inches long by 7 inches wide (largest) to 3 inches long by 1.5 inches wide (smallest). Condition: The rectangular paints are in varying condition with some having been broken or partially used.
The powder vials are also in varying condition with some vials being near empty. The boxes exhibit normal wear from age with some having damaged lids.
Some boxes are not fully complete (missing some paints or dishes). Overall this collection is a rare survivor with an array of fantastic colors and designs.Feel free to ask any questions.
